Most newlyweds spend their honeymoon on a beach, sipping cocktails and taking sunset selfies. But in October 2022, I had a slightly different idea for my new bride Nadia - "Honey, what if we went to Dublin, brought along a professional film crew, and documented one of the world's largest SaaS conferences?"
Surprisingly, she said yes. (This is why I married her, in addition to her being strikingly beautiful and having a heart of gold, of course.)
What started as a friend's casual mention of SaaStock turned into one of the most unconventional honeymoons in tech history. While other couples were posting beach photos, we were setting up interviews with SaaS founders, positioning cameras, and diving headfirst into the global SaaS community.
Enter Alex Theuma, the founder of SaaStock, whose story of building Europe's premier SaaS conference resonated deeply with my own community-building aspirations. Alex had built SaaStock from a simple blog and podcast into a global movement, and his approach to authentic relationship building matched my own philosophy perfectly.
What happened next was pure serendipity. The content we created caught attention, relationships formed, and before I knew it, I found myself on the main stage as emcee for both SaaStock Dublin and Austin events. (Not bad for a honeymoon side quest, right?)
During my conversations with Alex in Dublin, I learned about SaaStock's City Leader program. To my surprise, DFW - one of the fastest-growing tech hubs in America - was still without a leader. It was one of those moments where opportunity and preparation met perfectly.
You see, I've always been a natural connector. It's this innate ability to bring people together that led me to write "The LinkedIn Advantage" with Tony Jeary, and it's why building communities has always felt like second nature to me. When I discovered the DFW position was open, I knew immediately this was my calling.
But I didn't want to create just another networking group. Having built meaningful relationships throughout my career - from venture capitalists to investment bankers at Founders Advisors, from startup founders to corporate innovators - I understood that the most valuable connections often happen in unexpected moments.
That's why I decided to take a different approach with DFW SaaS. Instead of traditional networking events, we're creating experiences that foster genuine relationships. Whether it's hosting fireside chats at unique venues, organizing intimate dinners for founders, or planning unconventional networking activities, every event is designed to help people connect on a deeper level.
Alex's vision for SaaStock has always been about building authentic communities, and that's exactly what we're creating here in DFW - a space where SaaS leaders can find not just business connections, but true friendships, mentors, and partners.
